Early on in the pandemic, the Windsor County RiseVT team based out of Mt Ascutney Hospital & Health Center decided since they could not  physically interact with their communities, they would take their efforts to keep communities healthy online. Led by RiseVT-Windsor County’s intern, Meckenzie Varieur, the premise of the At Home Olympics Contest was for children and families to get together and complete weekly challenges that encouraged physical activity, as well as collaboration and creativity while maintaining physical distancing.

For a month, a weekly challenge was posted on Facebook for a total of four themes ranging from ball games to DIY obstacle courses. Families shared their completion of a challenge via a photo/video submission in order to be entered into a weekly prize drawing and a grand prize. Families from the towns of Weathersfield, Cavendish, and Hartland participated and many of these families participated throughout the duration of the contest.

The contest was such a success that RiseVT-Windsor County is hoping to plan another virtual challenge later this summer so folks in the Hartland area should keep an eye on the Windsor County Facebook page for updates.
