Through an Amplify Grant from RiseVT-Lamoille County, RiseVT sponsored adult swim lessons at Johnson State. The classes were a huge success with 33 adults participating in the age range of 20s-70s. The participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive as swimmers built their confidence in the water, faced their fears, and left with new skills and a new modality to achieve lifelong physical fitness.
In the parking lot after lessons, one participant confessed to the program organizer, “I am 75-years-old and I had been coming to the pool and swimming like an old lady. Now I can come and swim like a ‘real swimmer’.” According to the organizer, this participant was incredibly pleased with her progress and that her message conveyed her gratitude for a program which increased her self-confidence and skills. Another participant came to the class at the encouragement of her adult son, who was also participating in the program. Having participants of all ages working together and cheering each other on made the program particularly special.
RiseVT-Lamoille County is proud to have supported these swim lessons that gave the community an opportunity to participate and encourage each other to try something new and challenging! It has made a meaningful difference for all involved.
